Anti-virus Information

Lynn Public Schools utilizes a multilayered anti-virus solution.

On Your PC

Each Windows computer should have McAfee VirusScan installed.  McAfee VirusScan should protect you against viruses in e-mail, floppies, CD's, and downloaded from the web.

When it is correctly installed and running, you will have an icon in your tray (next to your clock) that looks like this:

If you do not have this icon, or if the icon looks like this please check under Tips on how to uninstall McAfee, or contact the Help Desk.

Incoming E-Mail

All incoming e-mail is scanned for viruses.  Because viruses can arrive before the anti-virus companies have identified them, we also block the kinds of attachments that are most commonly used to spread viruses.

Consequently, any e-mail attachment with the following extension will be blocked: .com, .exe, .pif, .bat, .cmd, .scr, .vbs

If a legitimate attachment is blocked, please contact the Help Desk and we will forward the attachment on to you.

On Our Servers

Every server is protected against viruses, and is actively scanned on a regular basis.
